| Mr. Akamatsu is Senior Advisor of Sustainable Development & Climate Change Department (SDCC) of Asian Development Bank (ADB) where he joined March 2009. He leads ADB’s works to support regional financial cooperation and integration including the Asian Bond Market Initiative (ABMI) of ASEAN+3. Representing ADB, he serves as Co-chair of the Steering Committee for Capacity Building of the ASEAN Central Bank Forum, which leads ASEAN financial integration as a pillar of ASEAN Economic Community. Previously, he was Deputy Head of the Office of Regional Economic Integration (OREI) and Chair of ADB’s Financial Sector Community of Practice, and guided ADB-wide financial sector operations.
Prior to joining ADB, Mr. Akamatsu was a staff member of the World Bank for 20 years. From September 2005 to March 2009, he was Finance & Private Sector Program Manager for Vietnam and Capital Market Advisor for East Asia & Pacific (EAP) Region of the Bank. Till August 2005, he was Lead Financial Economist and headed Capital Markets Group of the Bank’s Financial Sector Network at the headquarters in Washington. Under the capacity, he covered financial and capital markets across the world but particularly in Eastern Europe & Central Asia and Asia & the Pacific.
Mr. Akamatsu, a Japanese national, obtained his Master in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, USA, and another Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science, UK. Prior to his development career, he worked for Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo and in London and supported Nomura Securities’ investment banking operations. |
